AGM: SIPTU urged to fight Government’s austerity drive

DCU SIPTU members have voted to oppose the continuing Fine Gael/Labour programme of austerity measures. The following motion was passed at the Section’s AGM on April 17th:

That DCU SIPTU Section opposes further austerity measures such as property and water taxes, the taxation of maternity leave and the taxation of or cuts to child benefit; that DCU SIPTU Section calls on the National Executive Committee of the union to issue a strong statement of opposition to the property tax and to the introduction of a water tax in 2014.

‘That DCU Section supports the long-standing SIPTU policy of calling for a wealth tax and the DCU Section calls on SIPTU nationally to oppose, using every resource at its disposal, all further austerity measures until such time as a tax on wealth is introduced.’
